We’re excited to share the latest updates from the Rewilding Fairfield project at Fairfield Hospital! Thanks to the £40,000 grant from the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund, accessed through the Greater Manchester Environment Fund, we’ve been able to breathe new life into the hospital’s outdoor spaces.

What’s New?

20240925_110300.jpgAs part of our project, we’ve been busy planting over 13,000 bulbs and 190 trees, creating three unique garden spaces. We’re excited to share that work on two of them is almost complete, and they look incredible!

In the Education Garden, we’ve created learning circles, mud kitchens, an accessible path to ensure everyone can explore and enjoy the space, and bug hotels using reclaimed timber, along with beautiful bird boxes painted by the talented children at Fairfield Primary School.  And over in our new Bog Garden, we’re providing a much-needed habitat for local wildlife while helping to manage water and support a healthier ecosystem.  These spaces will be buzzing with life and activity before we know it!

And guess what? We’re already seeing the first of our bulbs bloom—planted by our army of over 40 volunteers earlier in the year, including local school children and our corporate partners, these flowers are adding colour and joy to the gardens, showing just how much community involvement makes a difference.

The Impact

IMG_9809.jpgThese gardens aren’t just beautiful—they’re creating learning opportunities, encouraging biodiversity, and providing a place where people can connect with nature. Unfortunately, not everyone has equal access to quality green spaces, and this is where projects like Rewilding Fairfield come in.

Thanks to the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund, and everyone who has contributed to this project so far, we’re able to make nature accessible to everyone, improving spaces where they’re needed most. Whether it’s through hands-on learning for children or simply offering a peaceful retreat for patients and staff, to helping local biodiversity thrive, Rewilding Fairfield is becoming a space for everyone to enjoy.
